How to Keep Stone Tree Beautiful: Simple Ways Every Golfer Can Help

Stone Tree Golf & Fitness isn’t just a golf course—it’s our shared backyard, our playground, and for many of us, our happy place. Every round you play here leaves a small footprint (sometimes literally!), and a few simple habits can make a big difference in keeping our greens, fairways, and bunkers in top shape for everyone to enjoy.

Here are a few friendly reminders and helpful tips you might already know—but might have forgotten between swings.

1. Fix Your Divots and Ball Marks

When your ball lands on the green, it often leaves a small dent (ball mark). Even if it’s tiny or you didn’t notice it at first, it’s important to repair it. Use a ball mark repair tool (you can grab one in the Pro Shop) to gently push the turf back into place. On the fairway, replace your divots — this helps grass regrow faster.

Why it matters: Unrepaired marks can take weeks to heal, making putts bumpier for the next group.

2. Rake the Sand Traps

After hitting out of a bunker, give the sand a quick rake—smoothing out your footprints and club marks. Always enter and exit the trap from the lowest point to avoid damaging the edge.

Why it matters: The next golfer shouldn’t have to play out of a crater left behind. A smooth surface keeps play fair and frustration low.

3. Mind the Golf Carts

Stay on designated cart paths where/when required, especially near greens and tees. On wet days, avoid soggy areas to prevent ruts that can be hard to repair.

Why it matters: Cart traffic can compact soil and damage turf, slowing down recovery and making the course less enjoyable.

4. Keep the Pace Moving

We all love a relaxed round, but staying aware of your pace helps the entire course flow smoothly. Be ready for your shot when it’s your turn, and wave faster groups through when possible.

Why it matters: A good rhythm makes the day more enjoyable for you and everyone behind you.

5. Watch Where You Walk

Avoid stepping on another player’s putting line, and steer clear of delicate areas—especially around the fringe of the green.

Why it matters: Foot traffic in sensitive spots can wear down the grass and affect putting quality.

6. Little Extras That Go a Long Way

  • Pick up stray tees or litter—even if it’s not yours.
  • Follow the rules of the course and be respectful of others – that means no outside alcohol or food, checking in and out at the Pro Shop, and being friendly to our staff
  • Be mindful with practice swings so you’re not taking extra divots unnecessarily.

Together, We Keep Stone Tree Special
