Golf Course Equipment Mechanic & Irrigation Technician
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Equipment Mechanic & Irrigation Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing all golf course maintenance equipment and irrigation systems to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This position supports daily course conditioning and plays a key role in protecting municipal assets and managing resources responsibly.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all golf course maintenance equipment, including:
- Greens, tee, fairway, and rough mowers
- Utility vehicles and carts
- Tractors and attachments
- Aerators, sprayers, blowers, and small engine equipment
- Greens, tee, fairway, and rough mowers
- Sharpen and grind reels and bedknives to proper specifications.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and service logs.
- Perform hydraulic, electrical, fuel system, and engine repairs.
- Monitor and maintain parts and supply inventory within approved budget.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance facility.
- Ensure compliance with municipal safety policies and OSHA standards.
Irrigation System Maintenance
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation system components, including:
- Controllers and central control systems
- Pumps and pump stations
- Valves, wiring, and electrical components
- Sprinkler heads and distribution lines
- Controllers and central control systems
- Assist with irrigation scheduling and water conservation practices.
- Perform seasonal system start-up and winterization.
- Identify and report system inefficiencies or water loss.
- Respond promptly to irrigation emergencies to minimize turf damage and water waste.
General Course & Department Support
- Assist with course improvement and capital projects.
- Provide guidance to staff on proper equipment operation and care.
- Support snow removal or other Parks & Recreation assignments as needed.
- Promote positive public relations with patrons and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of mechanical repair experience; golf course equipment experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and reel mower setup.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems (Toro, Rain Bird, or similar preferred).
- Valid driver’s license required.

- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize work independently.
- Understanding of cost control and preventative maintenance principles.
- Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
- Commitment to workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to mechanical hazards, noise, chemicals, and fuel.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Early morning, weekend, and holiday work required during peak season.
