3 Exercises to Improve Your Golf Game

Here are three simple moves that can help enhance your performances and take your game to the next level.

Exercise 1: Lateral Lunges

Lateral Lunges help strengthen the glutes, quads and adductors – muscles that play a huge role in maintaining a solid stance and transferring power through your swing. This move also increases hip mobility, which is crucial for generating power in your backswings and follow- through.

How to do it:

  1. Stand tall, feet hip width apart.
  2. Step out to one side and bend your knee.
  3. Push off the bent leg to return to the centre.
  4. Repeat on both sides for 10-12 reps per leg.

Exercise 2: Bird Dog

A strong core keeps you stable throughout your swing, preventing unwanted movement that can throw off your timing. The Bird Dog targets the deep stabilizing muscles in your abs and lower back- helping you stay solid from the first tee to the 18th green.

How to do it:

  1. Start in a tabletop position (hands under shoulders, knees under hips).
  2. Extend your right arm forward and left leg back, keeping your spine neutral.
  3. Hold for a few seconds, then return to the centre.
  4. Alternate sides for 10-12 reps each

Exercise 3: Medicine Ball Rotational Throws

Golf is all about controlled rotation. This explosive movement helps develop core strength and rotational speed – both key for a faster, more powerful swing.

How to do it:

  1. Stand sideways a few feet from a wall, holding a medicine ball at a chest height.
  2. Rotate your torso and hip, then throw the ball against the wall with force.
  3. Catch it, reset, and repeat for 6-8 throws per side.
